a dress for Joanna

I finally managed to make one of the summer dresses for Joanna. I say "finally" because I was supposed to make these dresses for last summer but summer 2012 was a bit of a wash-out here in Scotland so the dresses weren't needed. (That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!! :oD)

This was the pattern for this dress.

Joanna chose the straight bodice with the short skirt. After figuring out which pieces I needed, it wasn't too hard to get it done. Well, except for the zip. Honestly, you'd think I had never sewn a zip on before! I managed to get it done on the third attempt! (How embarrassing!)

Anyway, here's the dress.

I'm really pleased with it - including the zip!! - and, thankfully, Joanna likes it so we're all good!

  1. Oh that looks lovely - even nicer than the one on the packet - lucky Joanna! Now let's hope she doesn't have to wear a big cardigan and wellies over the top! Jane x

    1. Thanks, Jane. Mind you, wearing a dress with wellies doesn't seem to look daft these days ... probably just as well! :o)

  2. Adorable and in plaid! Plaids scare me but you did a great job :)

  5. Very nice... ya done good, Anne! The dress does look better than those on the pattern envelope... good use of the plaid on a diagonal for the pockets too!

    Brava!

    1. Thanks, Freda. I decided to put the pockets on the bias so I wouldn't have to worry about matching them to the dress front. Genius plan, eh? LOL

    1. I've had my summer skirt on a time or two as well, Anne. I really should make myself a dress or two to wear when - if - the sun comes out! :o)

  8. I bet Joanna is really pleased with the dress, love the fabric. You've done a great job. I try to avoid zips if I can. The pattern looks wonderful, lots of different designs.
