some photos

Our hydrangea is covered in blooms this year:

The montbretia is looking really healthy:

This rose doesn't look quite so healthy but I quite like the pink "unhealthy" bits. :o)

This is a shot of the full moon from our bedroom window last week. I love how it's shining on the water and the orange glow from the street lamps.

And this is the top I made for Joanna with the pattern and fabric we bought in Canada. I think it turned out really well.

in a jam

I've been busy making jam this weekend. First of all, yesterday morning, I made some raspberry jam with the last of the rasps in the freezer.

And the best bit - the skimmings:

And then we went along to a local fruit farm and bought some strawberries -

I cleaned most of them yesterday but had to leave the rest until today - drat my silly back! Anyway, I got some strawberry jam made and froze the rest of the berries to use throughout the year for more.

And, yet again, the best bit. I LOVE skimmings!

I'm hoping to get back to the fruit farm this week to buy some rasps this time - and maybe some blackcurrants or whatever else they have.

I can't wait until breakfast time tomorrow so I can have some lovely skimmings on my toast! :o)

I see the moon and the moon sees me

The moon has a gold fuzz around it tonight. This was the best photo I could get of it - not too good.

BTW - this was taken at 10pm my time. Yes, it is still light out there and it will be for another hour or so. And then it will start to get light at just after 4am. See -

Lots of daylight for us at this time of year. I love it! :o)

baby quilt finished

Linda or Gillian - if you see this, don't show Fiona! I want her to be surprised when Douglas gives it to her! :o)

Here's the baby quilt I made for Fiona's baby. Fiona and Michael have decided not to find out the gender of the baby so I had to choose fabrics that were gender neutral.

I'm very proud of the quilt - another sudoku pattern. :o)

when the rains came

It has *poured* with rain today. At the moment, it's raining so hard that we have a wee river flowing down our driveway. And the gutters out on the street are rushing with water.

I would go out and take photos but it's raining! And it's getting dark. Not like Scotland at all at this time of year when it's normally still light at 11pm when I head for bed.

It doesn't look like it's going to get much better over the next few days either! Yikes!

Doesn't bode well for the British Open (Golf) along at St. Andrews. I hope they've brought their thermals and waterproofs!

By the way, weather gods - it's meant to be the middle of JULY!!!

I'm not a great fan of opera but …

… Deb sent this link today and I've already watched it several times. I LOVE it!

backache and a new quilt

I moved a few things around in my sewing room last Thursday and could hardly move on Friday or Saturday because of it. Silly me! The problem is, when I'm moving things, my back is perfectly fine - no twinges or aches at all. Then by bedtime, I can barely move!

Friday was miserable. I was in constant pain. Even the painkillers I took didn't work very well and not for very long either. Then, on Saturday morning after me "sleeping" sitting upright most of the night, Douglas remembered about the heat pad his mum had given us so he dug it out and that worked wonders! By Saturday afternoon, I was able to move again! Hallelujah!

So no more moving things around. Or at least, not all in one go. I need to remember to do a wee bit at a time and leave the rest for another day.

Today I chose the fabrics I'm going to use for Fiona's baby quilt. I'm going to make it the same basic design as I made for Lizzy's baby quilt but maybe with a few changes.

Tomorrow I'm going to cut out the fabrics and then, depending on how my back feels, I might sew some together. See, I don't remember for long that I'm not supposed to do too much, do I? *sigh*

I've got until September to make this quilt but, even with my bad back, I'm sure I'll get it done way before then! :o)

Happy Canada Day!

Happy Canada Day, Debs, Jay and Mollipop! :o)
