happy St Andrew's Day!

30th November is St Andrew's Day. I think the Scots who live in far flung places celebrate this more than we do in Scotland. But that's okay. I'm sure if I left my homeland, I'd celebrate anything and everything Scottish as much as I could! :o)

I loved the graphic on google.co.uk today so I took a screenshot of it so I could post it here.

I think it's meant to be Edinburgh castle. Even if it's not, it's a pretty cool graphic with the Scottish flag flying high above it!

C'mon the Scots! :oD

going one better :oD

Joanna blogged and gave the link to the "Holidays are Coming" Coke ad she saw on the telly last week. I'm going to go one better and embed the youtube link for the longer version.

I LOVE this ad. I wonder how many times I'll click on the link between now and Christmas? Quite a few, methinks! :oD

Happy Thanksgiving!

I know we don't celebrate Thanksgiving here in Scotland but that doesn't mean I can't be thankful! :oP

I thought of listing things I'm thankful for but where on earth would I start? Okay, let's see -

Being thankful for Douglas goes without saying. He is my rock, my best friend, my lover (Debbie and Joanna, if you're reading this, sorry for embarrassing you like that! LOL). Best thing - he lets me stay at home and diddle around all day whilst he goes to a job he HATES with a vengeance. So, yes, I am really thankful for Douglas!

Being thankful for Debbie and Joanna also goes without saying. They made me a mum - the bestest job in the whole wide world. Love you, girls! :o)

I'm thankful for Rosie. She barks, scratches and sleeps a lot but then, she's a dog and that's just what dogs do!

I'm thankful that my Mum is still with us. She is getting old but then aren't we all?

I'm thankful that Debbie has found Jason. He makes her happy - what more can a mum ask than that?

I'm thankful for my health. Okay, so I have psoriatic arthritis and have just been diagnosed this week with highish blood pressure but, you know, I still count myself lucky with my health. Long may that continue.

And finally, I'm thankful for all my friends. Both in "real life" and on the internet - although why those friends aren't called "real" always astounds me. They are real to me. Thanks guys! :o)

If you're celebrating Thanksgiving where you are, enjoy it! And don't eat too much. Ach, ignore that! Eat as much as you like! :oD

keeping warm and cosy

I am really quite pleased with these.

Fronts -

Backs -

Yes, they are just hot water bottle covers and they're "only" made from granny squares but I'm still very pleased with them.

The reason I'm most pleased is that I joined the squares up as I went. I'd learned how to do that by reading Lucy's blog - attic24. Thanks for sharing that with us, Lucy!

Now that I know how to join them as I go, I'll never need to spend hours and hours sewing them together.

I wonder what else would look good covered in granny squares? :oD

a lazy blogger!!

Crumbs, I have been a lazy blogger this week.

I wish I could tell you that it was because I was doing something really exciting - but I wasn't!

I wish I could tell you I've been really busy in the sewing room - but I haven't!

I wish I could tell you that I'd spent the time cleaning my house - but I didn't!

I wish I could tell you that I'd been getting my act together early and was completely ready for Santa coming - but I'm not!

The truth is I didn't have much to say this week. I know - unusual for me but it's true!

Maybe I'll have done something exciting/be really busy in the sewing room/clean my house (HA!!)/be ready for Santa coming next week … but I'm not holding my breath! :oD

back door photo 15 November

Gosh the garden looks untidy with all those leaves lying around! Shame we didn't get the wind that was forecast for last weekend! That would have blown all those leaves into somebody else's garden! :oD

a busy weekend ahead

Douglas and I are going along to Jo's house to help her "get out of the bit" with her unpacking and little-job-doing.

She still has quite a lot of boxes around but, as I found when I was along there on Wednesday waiting for the phone man to come, most of it is kitchen stuff which she can't put away because the kitchen isn't done yet.

I've suggested to her that we pile all of those boxes out of the way until the kitchen is ready for them. Once we've done that, I know the place will look a wee bit better organised.

We're also thinking we'll tackle the polystyrene tiles on the walls and ceiling in the kitchen and bathroom. Yep, you read that right, there are polystyrene tiles all over the walls and up and over the ceilings in both the bathroom and the kitchen. It doesn't take too long to get them off but, oh, it's painful on the hands. And the dust! Yuck!

Anyway, I really hope we get a ton of work done and then, if the plumber does manage to get there next week to sort her central heating, she'll be comfy and cosy in her house.

Until we start fitting out her kitchen - but that won't be this weekend!

they've gone :o(

Debbie and Jason are heading for the airport as I type. I miss them already! :o(

I can't believe I'm sitting at the computer at 5am! I probably should have gone back to bed but I didn't. I put a load in the washing machine, ordered some books from Amazon (oops!) and then decided to blog.

I think I might go and read my book until Douglas gets back from the airport. We'll then have some breakfast together - a thing we never do during the week as he leaves way too early for a civilised breakfast before he goes to work!

Then I have to take Mum to Asda for her messages and then I have Singers tonight - rehearsing for 2 concerts next week.

I think I wrote all that to show to myself that, even without Debbie here, life goes on. I know she is sooooooo happy in Canada but that doesn't make it any easier to say cheerio.

I love you Debs - and I think Jason is well worth keeping! ;o)

As we say in Scotland - haste ye back!

catching up

I've finally sat myself down and loaded the photos from my camera into the computer. Here are just a few of our trip to Stirling. Yes, it was pouring rain!

First of all we went to the Wallace Monument -

The Wallace Sword -

The view over to Stirling Castle -

Joanna just being herself. I'm going to get into so much trouble for showing this photo but I LOVE it!! :oP

We then went to Stirling Bridge where William Wallace beat the pants off the English. :oD

Douglas with Stirling Castle in the background.

Debbie and Jason with the "new" Stirling Bridge in the background.

Then on to Stirling Castle -

Sheltering from the rain -

The view back to the Wallace Monument -

Then on Saturday we went over to Granny's house to meet up with Fiona, Michael, Jillian and Rory - and Granny!

Debbie telling Douglas how to work her camera.

Granny with Jillian and Fiona.

Adding Debbie and Joanna and Rosie - with Douglas in the background!

And then I just have to show this one to show Debbie's new hat! Makes me laugh out loud when I see it! :oD

Phew! Tons of photos!

out for the day

We're all heading out for the day to Stirling. We're thinking of going to the Wallace Monument and Stirling Castle. Maybe Bannockburn as well but, as Jason isn't English, there's no need to rub his nose in the Scots' defeat over the English in 1314 - the Scot's memory is long! :oD

Hopefully the weather will be okay and we'll get some decent photos but, if not, just the chance to share the day is going to be great.

a busy day

Debbie and I went through all the suitcases of her stuff in our spare room today to decide what clothes/shoes/coats she wanted to take back with her. We spent a long time at it but we finally got all the stuff she didn't want into the sewing room ready to be bagged for the charity shop.

My sewing room is a disaster area - no sewing will be done in there for a wee while, I'm thinking!

When Douglas came back from work this evening he put it this way - "I see we have a new wall in the spare room - but we seem to have lost the floor in the sewing room!"

arrived safely

Debbie and Jason flew in today. It's lovely to have Debbie home and wonderful to meet Jason in real life as opposed to on the computer screen.

It's now 7.45pm here and they're both in bed - probably fast asleep. Night flights are not exactly conducive to sleeping and they were both exhausted so they went to bed at about 7pm.

Did I say it was lovely to have them here? I did? Well it is! :o)

I hope it doesn't snow!!

Why? Well, last time Debbie tried to get home from Canada for a visit, it snowed and the plane couldn't take off. It was awful.

Tonight - Canada time - she and Jason are coming over for a visit. We're all looking forward to it - it's been over a year since she left Scotland.

So tomorrow at lunchtime - our time - Debbie and Jason will be arriving for 9 days. It'll be fun - and then sad when it's time for them to go back.

But let's not go there yet. We have 9 days of them to enjoy first. :o)
